Entrepreneurship (part two)- Girls' Mentoring Session

Thanks in part to your ongoing support, the Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) team held another girls’ mentoring program on the topic of entrepreneurship (part two).  Twenty-six young ladies between the ages of 10-20 years old in Freetown attended June's mentoring session.

The topic of entrepreneurship was covered by speakers, Luz G. and Diana K. C.

Luz was the first speaker and she asked the girls to divide into groups and identify twenty to thirty problems in their community. She further asked the girls to circle five problems amongst the problems listed that they wished to solve.

Luz used the points below to deliberate on entrepreneur’s problem-solving abilities:

  • Difference between service and products
  • Identified questions to ask oneself when intending to solve problems as an entrepreneur:
  1. Is the problem you intend to solve is urgent and relevant?
  2. Who your target customers are and determine if they are easy to reach?
  3. Can they afford your product or service?

She stated that if the answers to the above questions are yes, then one should consider solving the problem.

  1. Steps in sales
  2. Pricing of products and services
  3. Online marketing

Diana shared on entrepreneurship in the Sierra Leonean context. She spoke on the following points

  • Definition of entrepreneurship
  • Importance of entrepreneurship
  • Branding
  • Marketing
  • Pricing

She further showcases her products and explained the uniqueness of each of her products.

The girls participated asking both speakers questions and were all very thankful for this mentoring session on entrepreneurship.  At the end of the mentoring session, each of the girls received a care package, transportation money, and lunch.

Your support is continuing to change girls' lives. If you are not yet a recurring donor, we warmly invite you to consider setting up a recurring donation. Even a few dollars a month will go a long way. Consistent support is the key as this is the best way to ensure ongoing impact.

Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this worthy, ongoing project.
