"My Voice, Our Equal Future"-International Day of the Girl Child
Sunday, October 11, 2020, is the International Day of the Girl Child. UNICEF's annual campaign is “My voice, our equal future” for 2020.
As adolescent girls worldwide assert their power as change-makers, International Day of the Girl 2020 focuses on their demands to:
- Live free from gender-based violence, harmful practices, and HIV and AIDS
- Learn new skills towards the futures they choose
- Lead as a generation of activists accelerating social change
The International Day of the girl child highlights gender equality which is the 5th sustainable development goal. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large.
Women in Northern Africa hold less than one in five paid jobs in the non-agricultural sector. The proportion of women in paid employment outside the agriculture sector has increased from 35 percent in 1990 to 41 percent in 2015.
We are so thankful for your ongoing support that is educating girls and empowering girls like the girls pictured that are part of a mentoring group. Your support is truly changing not only the individual girls' lives but also the entire nation.
Our recurring donors are making a continuous impact and we are truly grateful for the ongoing support. If you are not yet a recurring donor, we warmly invite you to consider setting up a recurring donation. Even a few dollars a month will go a long way. Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.
